Great news! The remains of and monument to Native Diver, the most popular horse to ever run in  Southern California, will be relocated from the now defunct Hollywood Park to Del Mar.  Richard Shapiro, a USC alum and grandson of the horse’s owners Mr. and Mrs. L. K. Shapiro, enlisted the services of the archaeology department at USC to do the exhumation and relocation. The big black gelding ran eighty-one times and won thirty-seven races in the 1960‘s. He won thirty-four stakes races, more than any other horse in history, including the Hollywood Gold Cup three times in a row and the Del Mar Handicap at age eight on Labor Day in 1967.
